Odyssey Neo G9 Design
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 monitor has a 49″ widescreen with a plastic body material that feels solid. The color of this monitor carries a combination of black & white.
The dimensions of the monitor with a stand are 115 x 53.5 x 41.9 cm. The total weight of the monitor with a stand is 14.7 Kg. For the front side of the monitor, it can be seen that it carries a matte or non-glare screen. So this screen does not reflect much shadow or light that interferes.
The screen bezel of this monitor is relatively thin, only about 1.1 cm on the right, left, and topsides. At the bottom front, you can see the Samsung logo, NVIDIA G-Sync, and a symbol to indicate the position of the settings button on the bezel.
The backside of the monitor is dominated by glossy white and looks very futuristic curved. Right in the center of the monitor stand mounting hole, there is a large and round RGB light.
There is headset support on the neck of the stand that can be hidden when not in use, and of course, there is a cable management hole. Of course, the backside of this monitor has some connectivity (Power Input, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 Port, 2x HDMI 2.1 Port, 1x Headphone, 3.5mm Jack, 1x USB Type-B Port, 2x USB 3.0 Port).
Odyssey Neo G9 Features
1. Curved 1000R Screen
The curved screen with a 1000R curvature level looks very curved. This will make the eye distance and the monitor always the same/unchanged. This assumes our heads are in a normal position on the table, in the middle, and facing the monitor. This is the function of curved screens for large and wide monitors. So that gamers feel comfortable, and the eyes don’t get tired because the focus distance will be relatively not much different.
2. Mini-LED Quantum Technology
This Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 carries the latest Quantum Mini-LED technology, which is claimed to provide advantages to image quality compared to regular LEDs. Combined with Quantum HDR2000 technology, this Samsung monitor can produce high contrast levels of up to 1,000,000:1. This technology is claimed to have 2048 dimming zones that can provide precise lighting on the part of the screen that is needed.
This monitor supports adaptive sync, namely AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and G-Sync Compatible. Of course, we can activate the feature according to the graphics card used. If you want to use G-Sync Compatible, the monitor must be connected to a PC via DisplayPort.
3. Refresh Rate
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is a monitor with a maximum refresh rate of 240 Hz. Three refresh rate options are available on this monitor, starting from 60 Hz, 120 Hz, and 240 Hz. To use the refresh rate at 240 Hz, the monitor must be connected via DisplayPort
4. Black Equalizer
This feature can come in handy for gaming—used to set the black color on the screen. For example, to explain a dark corner or area in a game. Twenty levels of Black Equalizer levels can be adjusted as needed.
5. Low Input Lag
As a premium gaming monitor, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 has been equipped with the Low Input Lag feature. Samsung claims Low Input Lag on this monitor reaches up to 2ms.
6. Virtual Aim Points
Again, a gaming feature to display a crosshair image in the center of the screen. There are six crosshair options, consisting of 3 small crosshair models and three large crosshair models. The crosshair color in this feature has three choices, including Blue, Red & White.
7. Picture-by-Picture (PBP)
Of course, with a 49″ screen, this monitor offers the Picture by Picture feature. This feature can display two inputs side-by-side at the same time from other device sources, either from a laptop or console.
8. Picture-in-Picture (PIP)
Similar to Picture by Picture, this feature displays two inputs at once from the source of the other device. However, both display screens appear in the form of a window. The position can also be adjusted. It can be in the upper left-right corner or left-right in the lower corner.
9. Infinity Core Lighting
This is a feature of the RGB lights mounted on the backside of the monitor. Of course, this will more often be seen as shades of color on the wall behind the screen. There are several model settings, or the color of this RGB lamp can be selected via the OSD menu. Uniquely, there is a Core Sync menu. The RGB light will adjust its color according to the monitor screen display when enabled.
Odyssey Neo G9 Price
The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is now available for $2,499 (£1,749 and AU$2,999). To date, the Odyssey Neo G9 is one of the most expensive gaming monitors on the market, but it brings a lot of things that no other gaming monitor can match.
To our knowledge, the Odyssey Neo G9 is the only gaming monitor with an HDR 2000 rating, which means it blows the Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ monitor, and it delivers the best HDR we’ve ever experienced, including a TV we’ve seen.
In the end, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is rightfully called a premium-class gaming monitor. The large 49-inch screen on this Samsung monitor comes as a practical solution for those who use two or three monitors simultaneously.
Support for Quantum Mini-LED technology and a wide color gamut, this monitor is also suitable for use by content creators. This monitor may even be a selling point for the creator if it occasionally appears in the frame.
The price offered by this Samsung monitor is indeed relatively high in its class. However, if certainly your needs can be met through what this monitor has to offer, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is an option worth considering.
