Mevo Start Design

Every Logitech Mevo Start camera is small compared to other video cameras out there. Mevo Star measures 8.7 x 3.4 x 7.5 cm and weighs 232g. Although you will need your tripod to support this is a small camera.

Mevo Start has a very simple design. This camera has three small microphones on the top. A light (LED) at the bottom indicates recording when the camera. The power button, USB-C charging port, 3.5mm microphone input, and a MicroSD card slot are on the back. There is also a battery level indicator with an LED light that makes it easy to know the percentage of the camera’s battery.

Features and Performance

Logitech Mevo Start has resolutions up to 1080p. During the test, the footage looked clear and detailed, with bright and good colors. While the footage is good enough for online use, it’s not recommended for professional videographers who might need something with more pixels than the Mevo Start produces.

You can manually control various aspects of the image such as exposure, ISO, saturation, brightness, and orientation on Mevo Start. And you’ll also find a variety of presets, including Normal, Stage, Outdoors, and Back Lit, that come in handy depending on when and where you use them.

In the menu, it’s next to image filters like Vivid, B&W, and Sepia. However, it is unlikely that it will be used that much. I imagine most people would prefer to stick with natural colors, but it’s good to have options if you need them.

You can also zoom in to get what you need from the shot. It uses digital zoom, so you have to be aware that you will lose quality.

If you plan to shoot on the go, you can apply electronic image stabilization to prevent shake. It works well though it would be better if the stabilization came from the camera instead of a digital process.

Mevo Start Audio

In terms of audio, you also get a lot of control over the microphone. That includes the ability to adjust the volume of the camera’s microphone and your external microphone. You can also enable Audio Gain Control to make the audio sound more consistent when sound levels vary during movie shooting.

There are also four audio processing modes to choose from, namely General, Music, Speech, and Wind. Speech Mode, for example, uses the three microphones in the Logitech Mevo Start camera to estimate where the sound is coming from and keep the focus on your voice, ultimately reducing background noise.

It’s worth noting that the microphone built into the Mevo Start camera won’t be as good as a standalone external mic, so if you want the best sound quality, you might want to consider investing in one of these.

Mevo Start Price

Available for purchase now on Amazon, the Logitech Mevo Start costs $350 in the US, AU$600 in Australia, £326 in the UK.

Conclusion

Since it’s completely cable-free, you can take it anywhere to stream from any location. This would be a good alternative to using an unreliable smartphone camera to record video when not at home. You may need to purchase a tripod if you plan to use it away from your desk.

Perfect for beginners, Logitech Mevo Start doesn’t need to learn video editing or production technicalities. You get decent video quality too. Granted, it won’t be good enough for professionals who need ultra-high resolution, but for everyone else, the Logitech Mevo Start is a great choice without the hassle.

Product Advantage

  • It can be used ultimately wirelessly
  • Stream over Wi-Fi or mobile data
  • Use up to 3 Mevo Start cameras simultaneously

Product Weakness

  • The quality is not as good as the video camera
  • You must purchase a tripod separately
  • The microphone on the camera is not great

Other Product Comparison

If you want a camera for streaming that looks more like a traditional computer webcam, then one of the best we recommend is the Razer Kiyo Pro. It’s a lot cheaper than the Logitech Mevo Start, so it will be much better suited for streamers and casual gamers.

Just using the webcam for work and maybe the occasional little stream here and there? Our recommendation is the Logitech StreamCam. This is a webcam for anyone who frequently works from home. You’ll need to connect it to your computer via a USB-C cable, but once it’s connected, you’ll get fantastic picture quality.
