How to Turn off Macro Mode Completely in iPhone 13 Pro/Max – One of the biggest new features of the iPhone 13 Pro’s camera mode is the new macro mode, but how do you turn it off? The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a plethora of improvements in many areas, such as the promotion of the display and the A15 Bionic chipset.
However, the camera takes center stage thanks to a completely new array of sensors on the back. One of the new camera tricks is the dedicated macro mode. It uses the ultrawide camera to get you close to the subject and shoot small previously nothing details.
The results of the macro mode are very good. We say a lot of praise in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max reviews, but there are a few problems when you use macro mode. Macro mode will automatically fire whenever you approach an object, and there is no way to switch back to the main sensor.
The problem is that switching from that bulky primary sensor means you lose the naturally allowed background blur, often meaning you’ll miss out on the best shot.

Turn off Macro Mode in iPhone 13 Pro/Max
Until the release of iOS 15.1, you could not turn off macro mode. Luckily now you can, and here’s how:
- Make sure your iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 13 Pro Max is updated to iOS 15.1
- Go to Settings, then scroll down to Camera
- Scroll down again to Auto Macro mode
- Uncheck the box and done
Is it still possible to use macro mode?
Kind of, but not in the same way. There’s no switch in the camera app to enter the same macro mode once this option is disabled, but you can switch to the ultrawide camera and get closer to get a similar effect.
Hopefully, Apple will add the ability to specifically jump into the macro mode with visible options in a future update.
